A. Cucumeris
Amblyseiulus cucumeris
Target pest Thrips-Broad Mites-Russett Mites
(cu ca mare iss)
Cucumeris is a tiny 0.5mm predatory mite, the clear-white adult females that lay up to 35 eggs that hatch into small larvae which develop into nymphal forms before reaching adulthood after about 10 days. They are fierce predators, consuming many immature thrips, then around 30 days as adults. The conditions for optimum performance will be between 64-80°F with a relative humidity of between 65-75%. however, considerably cooler temperatures will hamper reproduction and development.
Cucumeris are sold as adults in a bran-flake/vermiculite carrier good for hot spots when thrips are present for a fast acting kill. They also feed on available pollen. This helps them be an efficient long-term preventive agent as well as a curative one.
Cucumeris are also available in small hanging sachets that have breeding adults, immatures and eggs along with a mold mite (Tyrophagus putrescentiae) that acts as a sustainable food source that allows for a steady hatch for 5-8 weeks for a hatch of 1000. These are not only a very effective cure but actually quite inexpensive allowing growers to use them as a preventative before thrips, broad mites or russet mites show up.
